Getting started

Download Pasta, move it to Applications, sign in, and let it paste for you. Plus how the free trial works.

1. Download and install

Download Pasta for Mac. It runs on macOS 13 or later, on Apple Silicon and Intel.

  1. Open the downloaded disk image.
  2. Drag Pasta into your Applications folder.
  3. Open Pasta from Applications.

If you open Pasta straight from the disk image, it offers to move itself into Applications for you. Click Move to Applications and it copies itself over, opens the new copy and ejects the disk image. Pasta needs to live in Applications to keep itself up to date.

Pasta lives in your menu bar (look for the fork icon). There’s no Dock icon.

2. Sign in

The first time you open the panel, Pasta walks you through a short setup. Signing in is required. Your account is what labels your copies and syncs them between your Macs.

  • Continue with Google opens your browser, lets you pick an account, then brings you back to Pasta.
  • Email and password works too. New accounts get a verification email; click the link, then click I’ve verified.

3. Let Pasta paste for you

Next, Pasta asks Want Pasta to paste for you? Say yes and picking a card pastes it right where you were typing. Say no and Pasta just copies the card, so you press ⌘ V yourself.

To paste for you, macOS asks you to allow Pasta once in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. On macOS 27 this is called Device Control and Data Access. Pasta only uses it to press ⌘ V for you.

  1. Click Yes, paste for me. macOS opens the right page in System Settings.
  2. Switch Pasta on. The setup screen notices by itself.
Pasting stopped after an update? macOS sometimes forgets the permission when an app is replaced. In System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility (or Device Control and Data Access), select Pasta, remove it with −, then add it back with + and switch it on.

You can change your mind any time with Paste for Me in Settings.

4. Start pasting

Copy something, anywhere. Then press ⌘ ⇧ V in any app, pick a card and press Enter. That’s the whole trick. See every shortcut.

Free trial and plans

Every new account gets 7 days free, with no card needed. The panel shows how many free days are left. After that, Pasta is $5 a month or $48 a year, with everything included. See Pricing.

When the trial ends without a plan, the panel asks you to pick one before you can keep using it. You can subscribe or manage your plan any time in Settings → Plan.
